Destination Skin: Are You Skincare Aware?

Monday, May 11, 2015

This week 11th -17th March marks the first ever National Skincare Awareness Week brought to you by DestinationSkin.

If you aren't familiar with Destinationskin, they are a national chain of registered clinics (21 in total) specialising in non-invasive, advances skin solutions to treat a wide range of individual skin concerns. The Glasgow clinic is located in the basement of House of Fraser (downstairs from the handbags).

Destination Skin's #SkincareAware campaign was designed simply to help educate people on the importance of good skin health. There are many lifestyle factors which can damage our skin such as smoking, pollution and the sun.
Even in typical, overcast Scottish weather, we are all susceptible to UV damage. Sunlight exposure can cause damage to the skin even when its cloudy so its important to be aware of ways to help protect it.

I'm a typical, Scottish, redhead with fair skin which means I burn at the slightest hint of the sun. I'm always careful to use a good SPF on my skin, I wear a factor 30 everyday and then a 50 if its particularly sunny. I've recently been using the Dermaquest Youth Protection SPF 30 (£49.00) which contains zinc and is a physical sunblock. Destination Skin has a cool light box which allows you to look at your skin under a UV light to show any sun damage. I applied the SPF while under the light and was amazed and how much it blocks out.

I've also been having a course of skin treatments at Destination Skin. I'll be doing a full review of these soon. The photographs above are a before and after from an IPL laser rejuvenation treatment. My skin isn't terrible by any means but I do get the odd blemish and suffer from dull skin. The IPL left my face feeling lovely with a nice radiant glow.

You can join the campaign to become #SkincareAware by taking part in Destination Skin's Skin Scanner Challenge which allows you to take a deeper look at your skin. Contact your local clinic to join the #SkincareAware revolution and  reserve your space today.
You can also enter their competition to win over £1000 worth of skincare treatments/products. Visit the Skincare Awareness Week Campaign page for more information.
