Urban Decay Naked 2 vs W7 In The Buff

Tuesday, February 03, 2015

If you told me a few years ago that I would mostly be wearing neutral eyeshadow I'd have laughed in your face. I've always been a lover of all things bright when it comes to eye makeup but I've been reaching for more muted colours of late.
Recently I bought myself a Naked 2 Palette from Urban Decay. I'm already a massive UD fan and use the Smoked Palette almost daily but fancied a little bit of a change.

After getting it home it seemed very familiar to me and I had a root around my collection and realised that I already own the near identical W7 In The Buff Palette.
The W7 Palette has clearly been created as a copy or dupe of the Urban Decay Naked 2 but without as high a price tag. I thought I'd do a little bit of comparing of the two.

Firstly, the packaging is very similar, both products come in a metallic beige tin. Naked is around 1cm smaller and has a proper hinge whereas In the Buff (ITB) is a little more flimsy (ie. I've broken the hinge already)  ITB comes with a pretty rubbish double sided sponge applicator whereas Naked has the double sided Good Karma brush.

Each product contains 12 eyeshadows which around 15.6g although ITB appears slightly larger due to the spacing.
On first inspection the shades seem very similar however there are slight differences upon closer inspection. Naked Shades are listed under the eyeshadow and ITB are shown as a sticker on the back of the tin. The palettes contain both shimmer/metallic and matte shades.
The Urban Decay Palette is pretty consistent with the quality of the shadows, they are all very pigmented with minimal fallout. The matte shades in ITB are a little hit and miss but the metallic shades seem to work well. Naked Blends better and the shadows are buttery soft.

Top Row: W7 In The Buff  Bottom Row: Urban Decay Naked 2

All in all the palettes are very similar but if I had to pick a favorite I'd go for the Naked 2.
Urban Decay Naked 2 costs around £37 (via Debenhams) and W7 around £5.75 (via Xtras.co.uk)
