Beauty Chat with... Beth Sherburn

Thursday, September 18, 2014

I recently went along to see The Saturday's Tour in Glasgow's Armadillo. I caught up with Beth Sherburn who is supporting act on the tour and had a little music and beauty chat. Beth was discovered while working at a beauty counter in Debenhams. The 23 year old caught the attention of John McLaughlin (the music mogul behind Busted, Take That and Girls Aloud) and has since released a cover of Ordinary World. Her new single, The Joker features Lil Wayne and is out on September 21st.

Hi Beth, has it always been a dream of yours, to one day become a famous singer/songwriter?
Hi :) it's not about the fame but yes music is always something I've wanted to do..Before I got spotted I've always worked really hard on my music....I always participated in local/national competitions from a young age, I performed in musicals (Don Quixote) starring alongside George Costigan and Matthew Kelly.. Attended music/choir workshops, singing and piano lessons as well as performing at many world class venues such as The Royal Albert Hall, NIA Arena, Manchester Arena

When did you start singing and what did your family and friends think?
I knew from the age of 7 years old music was what I wanted to do....I was chosen to sing a solo at my Primary School..it was a Celine Dion song and I absolutely loved performing on stage! Music definitely brought me out of my shell...from that day music has always been In my life!
I'm very lucky to have an amazing family who have supported me from the beginning! Taking me to piano, singing lessons! Buying my backing tracks, costumes! Driving me all over the UK! I have so much to thank them for!

You have an amazing background story about how you were discovered while working in Debenhams, what did it feel like when you were initially offered a record deal?
It was an amazing feeling! I have always wanted to get in to the music business. I've always worked hard behind the scenes...but I can't believe it happened to me at work.

How would you describe your music for those who have yet to experience it?
I am a pop/urban singer songwriter..I think my songs are fun, edgy with full of attitude!
All my songs are based on life experiences; whether this is my own experiences, friends, relationships or good nights out..

Your single “Joker” features Rapper Lil Wayne, which other artists would you like to collaborate with in the future?
I would love to work with Timbaland...he's a genius he has written and produced so many classic songs..Justin Timberlake's 'Cry Me A River' is still one of my favourites! And I love Beyoncé's single 'Grown Woman' which he co-produced also.

Which other artists to you admire or draw inspiration from?
I Love Beyonce, shes the ultimate diva!  The energy She creates on stage is incredible! And Jay Z is a genius! I was lucky enough to see them perform together at the 02 and for me seeing them sing together was the highlight of the Mrs Carter Show...
I also love Michael Jackson, JLO, Rihanna and Alicia Keys, she inspired me to write songs and to play the piano! Which has definitely helped me write songs!

If you weren’t singing, what would you like to be doing?
I wouldn't have a clue! Music is all I've ever known I wouldn't want to do anything else! I have studied music theory so it will always be in my life!

My readers are all crazy about celeb style and beauty, how would you describe your look?
I love High Street Fashion..I'm very lucky to have Boohoo sponsoring me on the Saturdays Tour! I love their clothes! I also love shopping in Topshop, Zara and River Island!

What are your top beauty tips or must-have products?
Yves saint Laurent. Touché éclat is fantastic for a quick pick me up when your on the go and your eyes are looking a little tired.
Another Tip is to take your make up off! I use simple cleansing kind to skin facial wipes. These are essential in cleansing and refreshing your skin. Going to bed with a clean face is necessary in order to let your skin breathe. Otherwise, your pores become clogged with makeup causing reactions. Cleanse, tone and moisturise twice a day, once in a morning before makeup and then again at night.

We’ve heard that you may be releasing your debut album in the next year, what else can we expect from you in the future?
Yes I am currently working on my album and excited to be supporting Neon Jungle in October! I will be doing a school tour before the end of the year!
