Ishga Facial at Blythswood Spa

Thursday, August 14, 2014

Ah, Blythswood, you really have stolen my heart when it comes to a good old spa day.
I've been to spas and salons aplenty, some good, some bad, but none seem to do it for me the way Blythswood Spa does. Ideally, I'd like to just take up residence and be continually pampered for the rest of my days, a girl can only dream!

I had a wonderful Ishga Facial recently. It was honestly one of the most relaxing experiences I've ever had. Ishga comes from the Gaelic for water and the products and treatments are based around 100% organic Scottish seaweed. Scientific tests have shown that Hebridean seaweed contains natural anti-oxidants that has anti-ageing properties which help protect the skin.

The Ishga facial is designed to revitalise and repair and uses a number of different steps. My therapist initially talked through my skin concerns and about the products while giving me a lovely foot exfoliation. Afterwards I lay on the amazing heated treatment bed (I dare you not to fall asleep in this) and enjoyed my facial. During the treatment my skin was gently exfoliated, cleaned, massaged and moisturised. My favourite part was the application of a luxuriously thick facial mask and the arm, neck and shoulder massage while it worked its magic. The mask was totally new to me as although thick, it dried almost to a hard, jelly like texture and peeled off. Sounds strange but it felt wonderful. It certainly managed to buff away all the dead skin cells which can leave the skin looking dull. My skin has never looked so plump and radiant.

Sadly as I was still recovering from my recent appendicitis surgery I wasn't able to make use of the thermal experience or the Ishga Seaweed Bath and Hot Stone Massage (both I've heard are amazing and will definately need to try out soon) but I did make the most of Blythswood's relaxation room where I enjoyed a snuggle under a lovely warm blanket, a cup of chamomile tea and a nice glossy magazine, sheer bliss.
I was so relaxed that as soon as I arrived home I fell asleep and woke up the next morning feeling refreshed with super-soft skin. What more could you want?

The Ishga facial is £80 to book in you can call the spa on 0141 240 1622 or email spa@blythswoodsquare.com. To view a list of Ishga treatments available at Blythswood Spa visit the Townhouse Collective website
