Dreaming of some Winter Sun

Monday, December 18, 2017

Earlier this year I had my first proper sunny holiday in years and had an absolute blast. I went to Costa Adeje in Tenerife in June with my partner. We stayed for a 7 nights at Laguna Park 1 Hotel which seemed to have good reviews on TripAdvisor.
It turns out that I'm actually hopeless at booking holidays and managed to spend more than we wanted and get flights from Glasgow airport but returning to Prestwick airport with two different airlines, but it turned out ok in the end. I'd probably have been better booking it via a proper holiday website like Holiday Gems rather than attempting to cobble together flights and hotels myself.

A little known fact about me is that I am absolutely terrified of flying so I wasn't really looking forward to the 4 hour plane journey from Glasgow. It wasn't too bad though I took with me my tablet and downloaded some movies and TV shows on Netflix which killed the time a little.

I've visited Tenerife when I was a child with my parents and stayed in the more upbeat Playa de las Americas. We're getting on a bit for the clubbing scene so the next town over Costa Adeje seemed a bit of a better choice for us, plus it was only a 20 minute walk away if we felt a bit adventurous (we didn't - we walked over and had the strongest Mojitos on the planet, couldn't feel our knees for five minutes and stumbled back home afterwards, rock and roll!)

Tenerife is the largest and most populated of the seven Canary Islands, it is part of Spain but sits just off the coast of the Western Sahara so is absolutely roasting. The island has some amazing things to do such as visit Mount Teide National Park, which is home to Tenerife's active volcano, or go for a splash at one of the many waterparks. I've heard Siam Park is amazing I really wanted to go but unfortunately I underestimated the heat and got sunburn on my back quite badly on the first day (even with factor 50 SPF). The waterpark is on top of my list for the next trip!

I mostly just chilled out during the holiday, we spent most of the morning exploring Costa Adeje beaches, playing mini golf (which I've discovered a talent for) and the afternoons relaxing by the pool. We were really lucky as the Laguna Park 1 resort had a fantastic pool area which great entertainment during the day. Night time wasn't great at the hotel so we made the most of the all inclusive dinner before checking out some of the bars nearby. The Irish Rover bar was a personal favourite with great live music and karoke nights.

Our balcony was a lovely place to chill out in the evenings. Mostly we played cards and had a few drinks and snacks before heading to bed early. One thing I realised I missed a lot about holidays is that you can still get proper Bacardi Breezers outside of the UK. They are so tasty, if anyone knows where I can get them here do let me know.
I can't wait to book my next holiday abroad, its so cold in Scotland at the moment it's taking all my willpower not to nip on to Holiday Gems and book somewhere nice and sunny. I do have a week off in February though so I may just get tempted.

This post has been a little bit different to what I usually write about but I thought it would be nice to share a little about what I've been up to this year. I'll be featuring a lot more about my life in general soon so I hope you enjoy.
