Doune the Rabbit Hole Festival

Monday, July 24, 2017

In a few weeks I'm grabbing my camping gear and setting off to Doune the Rabbit Hole festival. I love going to festivals and haven't been to one this year yet so really looking forward to the weekend.
Doune the Rabbit Hole, or simply Doune as its affectionately known, is located at Port of Menteith near Stirling. It's a relatively small festival compared to the likes of Glastonbury or T in the Park but it sure does have a lot of character. One of my favorite Scottish festivals was the Wickerman festival which unfortunately was cancelled last year, what I liked most about it was that lots of smaller, local bands played. It's great to chill out and listen to new music as well as supporting up and coming musicians.

The weekend's headliners include Liars (Australian-American rock band), Songhoy Blues (desert-punk band from Mali, discovered by Damon Albarn) and Start to End performing Daft Punk's Discovery album. These, alongside at least 20 other bands per day means your ears will be spoiled for choice for the weekend. As well as music the festival also has arts and craft workshops for adults and children and plenty of great food stalls to keep you going for the weekend.

I try to pack as lightly as possible for a festival but my I also like to be comfortable so I make sure I have things like my air bed and a little stove so I can make my own food and heat up my hot water bottle (top tip is to fill one and leave it inside your sleeping back so its toasty when you get to bed).
I save up little travel sizes of my favorite beauty products like moisturiser and decant foundation into smaller tubs so I'm not carrying as much. Suncream is an absolute must I always wear factor 50 even if its cloudy - spending a festival weekend sunburnt isn't fun.

I usually stick to the same skincare products for festivals, my favorites are Lancome Energie De Vie day and night cream, La Roche-Posey Toleraine Ultra, Aveda Daily Light Guard and Aesop Immediate Moisture Facial Hydrosol. Baby Wipes are also an absolute must for any type of festival or camping as is a good hand sanitiser liquid.

If I drink alcohol I tend to stick to fruity cocktails. Obviously it wouldn't be easy to bring lots of individual cocktail components so I like to use Fentiman's and mix with my own spirits. The Wild English Elderflower is one of my favorites with some gin and really refreshing. I like that I can screw the lid back on and pop it into my bag. Their Ginger Beer or Lemonade Shandy are also great if alcohol isn't your thing.

Doune the Rabbit Hole isn't sold out yet so grab yourself some Doune festival tickets, your wellies and a case of cider and I'll see you there!
