Celebrating National Gin Day 10th June

Saturday, June 10, 2017

I do enjoy the odd tipple and in the summer tend to favor gin over other drinks, as its really easy to make up into refreshing cocktails.
I'm a massive fan of Fentimans soft drinks especially the Rose Lemonade so I was really pleased to find out they have launched a new alcoholic version with gin. They also have a Gin and Tonic flavour which is very tasty and at 6.5% quite a cheeky little summer drink. It is made with Bloom London Dry Gin.
If you want to use your own gin they also have bottles of flavoured tonic waters without alcohol, I particularly like the Pink Grapefruit flavour.
Fentimas is actually the only brewer in the UK to use botanical brewing processes, which involves simmering herbs and plants, to produce natural, full flavoured drinks. Their mixer range includes seven drinks, they have nine soft drinks and a selection of craft beer, gin mixers and alcoholic ginger beers.

I was really surprised to find out that Lidl also have some fancy gins for the summer. I've been enjoying their Hortus Summer Botanical Gin infused with citrus fruits. I picked up a few soft drinks while I was in store to make a cocktail.
I'm really impressed with the gin as some supermarket own brands are a little bitter but this is delicious, you could drink it on its own poured over ice, the light citrus flavour is lovely. The gin is traditionally distilled in copper stills in England at 40% it definitely holds up against other premium gins.

I mixed the gin with some of Lidl's Vitafit Cloudy Apple Juice and topped it up with Freeway White Grape Spritz to make a delicious cocktail. I'd definiately recommend it for a drinking with lots of ice in the garden.
