One for the Boys: Gift Guide for Men

Friday, July 22, 2016

I always find it incredibly difficult to buy gifts for the men in my life, especially as none of them have hobbies as such. My partner loves motorbikes but unfortunately for him I’m not buying him one of those every Christmas! None of them are really helpful in the slightest when I ask what they’d like for birthdays/Christmas etc as I’m usually answered with “anything really” or “I don’t know what I want” – Handy!

Throughout the year I try to always keep an ear out and make a mental note of anything they say they like and either buy it and hide it or write it down somewhere.  I’ve found that around holidays like Christmas or Father’s day you can find great deals on products to buy for occasions later in the year.
Unless I’m buying something that has been specifically asked for then I like to buy lots of little gifts rather than or to accompany a bigger present. Usually these include things like skincare, accessories, sweets etc which always go down well as they wouldn’t normally buy them for themselves.

The Kiehls skincare range is specially formulated for mens skin and was tested in low temperatures in Greenland. The Facial Fuel Energizing Scrub (£17.50) and Facial Fuel Energizing Face Wash (£17.50) are excellent additions to a morning shower routine and leave the skin feeling cleansed and soft (I’ve actually had a sneaky try of these products myself)

Ties are often thought of as a bit of a naff present but I think this Tailored Bishop Silk Tie (£25.00) from Howick at House of Fraser is lovely. It comes in a variety of colours but I think the pink adds a bit of fun to a smart shirt. These silver cufflinks (£35.00) also from Howick are something my partner would never buy himself but really liked when I gave him them. I particularly like the knot shape of these.

Aftershave is a bit of a no-brainer when buying for men, I try to buy a different scent each time so that they have a bit of a variety to choose from. I know a few men who would stick to the same old Hugo Boss they have worn since they were a teenager otherwise.  I really like the Ferrari Fragrances at the moment, the collection has something for everyone but the Essence Oud is a personal favourite. Ferrari has also just launched this fragrance in an iPhone Case which would make for a fun gift. I’m also a fan of the GANT Fragrance as it smells fresh and light, I've actually worn this myself a few times, it has hints of wood and sea salt and isn't overpowering.

If all else fails there is always chocolates!
