What I'm Reading: The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

I've been making the most of these chilly, Autumn nights by getting myself some lovely hot chocolate or chai tea and getting cozy in bed with a good book. I've been loving my hand-painted Sunflower mug from Glasgow based textile company, Bluebell Grey, it's very pretty and sturdy (which is good as I have a habit of smashing nice crockery by accident.)

This week I've been re-reading The Fault in Our Stars by John Green (around £4.00 via Amazon.uk). I've read this a few times now and I really enjoy it (although it does make me tear up a little)
Without giving away any spoilers the book is about Hazel, a 16 year old girl who has "just a touch" of cancer. Hazel meets Augustus Walters, at a cancer support group and the two embark on a journey of young love and finding answers about the ending of Hazel's favorite book. There are some quite dark moments, which is expected given the subject matter, but also some fairly lighthearted moments. These often feature some of the supporting characters such as Issac who is losing his sight from the disease and has recently been dumped by his spoiled girlfriend. (what a b****!)

The story itself starts off in America but also takes Hazel and Augustus to Amsterdam. I'm actually on route to The Netherlands myself at the moment. I've been several times in the past but I've never traveled by boat before so this is definitely going to be an interesting experience. I'll keep you posted on how it goes.

The Fault in Our Stars may not be the best book ever, or indeed the best written, but it seems to have found a special place in my heart. I find it quite beautiful.
I never like to give away too much about books themselves as I'm afraid of spoiling it for those who haven't read it yet. If you haven't already, I'd definitely suggest picking it up. I couldn't put it down and read it for the first time in less than a day.
If you are not the reading type the movie adaption is available on DVD from November 3rd. Its fairly true to the tale.
