Friday Night Fun: Frozen Margarita Recipe
Friday, November 16, 2012I've been perfecting the recipe over the years so I thought I would share how I make my own. I'm off to a cocktail party next week so please link me some of your faves in the comments below.
So, onto the Margarita, this recipe makes about 4 drinks so add more or less to suit your needs.
You will need;
- Blender
- Lots of Ice Cubes (or crushed ice if you don't have a blender)
- 4 Limes
- 3 shots Gold Tequila (my fave is Jose Cuervo)
- 4 shots Triple Sec (orange liqueur)
- 2 tsp caster sugar to taste (optional)
- Salt for the glass rims (I use a mixture of table salt and Mexican spices)
I have a smoothie maker which is fab for cocktails as it has a little tap for it to pour from.
Next, juice the limes and add to the ice, you can also use 4 tbsp bottled lime juice but fresh is much better.
Use the lime skins to rub around the edges of your glasses this will allow the salt mixture to stick to the glass.
Pour a little salt onto a small plate and run the edge of the glass around in it to coat with the salt mixture and leave the glasses to one side.
You can add a little sugar at this stage to taste if you find the limes a little sour, I don't myself but I like fairly tart cocktails.
Whizz up everything (or shake) in the blender now until it forms a slushy liquid and then pour into your salt rimmed glasses.
You can also serve this with a slice of lime or even a red chili if you are feeling really adventurous.
If its a little strong as is you can also mix with a little lemonade it tastes great either way.
Frozen Margaritas are possibly my favourite tipple however, for a refreshing alternative to using alcohol, I'd recommend substituting the Tequila and Triple Sec with grapefruit and orange juice, delicious.
Remember to always drink alcohol responsibly!
