Remembering how to Relax

Tuesday, May 22, 2018

Sometimes we are so caught up in life that we forget to take some time out for ourselves and just plain old relax. I'm the absolute worst for this and always seem to be doing something, whether its work related, visiting people or checking out the latest beauty product. I used to thrive for always being busy but since becoming pregnant I've been absolutely knackered so I've realised I need to take some time to slow things down and relax.

I had a wonderful chilled time at the Macdonald Forest Hills Spa a few weeks ago and recently decided to make some more time for myself and doing things that make me content, mostly this is just taking some time out from technology and getting myself cosy.

I don't know about you but first thing I do when I get home is to put on my pjs. I can't sit comfortably in the house in jeans or normal clothes. No matter what time of day, if I'm in the house then pajamas it is for me. I've had to get lots of new pjs because I've gone up a size and this cute unicorn pajama set from Hunkemoller is one of my favourites. Its been so warm here recently that shorts are a must, I also really like that its black. I like wearing black in general and its not often you come across black pjs. The set is great quality and Hunkemoller have loads of other comfies and underwear on their website so I'll definiitely be ordering again soon.

Something that really chills me out is reading, I've always been an avid reader but found myself doing other things recently when I'd usually be curled up with a good book, so I made a point of picking myself up a few new ones and getting stuck in.
I made the most of Tesco's 2 for £7 deal I usually just pick up the first two that catch my eye and hope for the best.

The first book I read was Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman. I'd heard a lot of good things about this book but hadn't read much into the plot itself. From the cover it sounded a little like Bridget Jones Diary or the likes which I enjoyed. I read this in a few days, I found myself enjoying it a lot more than I thought and really felt for Eleanor in parts. It's a great feel-good read which covers life and loneliness. I'd 100% recommend as a holiday poolside read.
The next book is The Girl Before by JP Deleaney. I thought the synopsis sounded quite interesting but I wasn't impressed in all honesty. Story is set around a high-tech, beautifully designed house and an architect/landlord with a lot of rules. A little bit 50 Shades of Grey in parts. It was ok but I struggled to make myself finish it. I found it a little all over the place while still being predictable. Readable but definitely not something I'd say I enjoyed.

I mostly read in bed (or on the bus, but I'd look a bit weird their in my pjs) and I like to light a nice scented candle in the bedroom. Something about candles just chill me out, I'd have my entire house filled with them (well, it is a little). I adore Shearer Candles in general but their newest scents Lemon Zest and Clean Slate are just gorgeous. Clean Slate is lovely to burn before bed as its not overpowering and very fresh, whereas Lemon Zest is zingy so great for daytime.

I've also been using the Body Shop Oils of Life Revitalising Sleeping Cream at night in place of my usual night cream. It contains Lavender and Chamomile oils so it has an amazing, relaxing scent which helps me feel sleepy. It also leaves my skin very hydrated and feeling lovely and soft in the morning.

I'd love to hear about ways you like to relax, if you have any tips let me know in the comments or message me on social media.
