First Trimester Skincare Saviors

Monday, May 07, 2018

As some of you may know, or have noticed from my insta-stories or social media, I'm expecting my first baby later in the year.
I thought long and hard about whether to share this or not on my blog as I know pregnancy announcements can be bittersweet. While some will be delighted there are also some who have gone through difficulties of their own, including many people I know and its important to be respectful of that.

Infertility and loss are something I've never had to experience personally but after having previous surgeries in that area and also suffering endometriosis I wasn't sure if I'd be able to conceive naturally. Clearly though, I was and although a little sooner than expected we are both really pleased about it.

I'm now 15 weeks and well into my second trimester. My first trimester wasn't all that pleasant if I'm honest. I knew I was pregnant straight away as all of a sudden I had zero energy and had a weird metallic taste, like old pennies, in my mouth. I've also had really bad morning sickness, well most of the day sickness if we are being real here, right from the beginning. I struggled to keep anything down and was sick like clockwork straight after eating. I've managed to work out that anything with milk or yoghurt made it worse so I've cut dairy out almost completely.

My skin has also been misbehaving. I've never been one to get spots, even as a teenager, so I was pretty horrified when I started getting huge red welts all over my face. I had to delve deep into my skincare arsenal to try and remedy it and have finally got it under control.

I had to completely change my skincare routine and keep trying different things til I found what worked for me. Some of my absolute saviours are:

Soap & Glory Face, Soap and Clarity Facial Wash (£8.00) - I love S&G in general and this face wash is just brilliant. I use this in the shower to cleanse my face. It's 3-in-1 formula gets rid of my makeup really well, cleanses my face and exfoliates wonderfully without being abrasive.

Superdrug B Pure Micellar Water (£4.49) - I use this when I get out the shower to remove any last scraps of makeup or rouge mascara. Its very gentle but effective.

Clarins Toning Lotion with Iris (£21.00) - I have quite large pores on my t-zone and this is where the majority of my breakouts are happening. I've always found using a toner helps to reduce the appearance of my pores and this alcohol free formula is gentle on my skin.

La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo+ (£16.00) - This is my ultimate, secret-weapon. A total must have in my skincare collection. I could kiss the person who came up with this product as its perfect. It seems to fix any skincare issue I have. A true multi-purpose product it moisturises, reduces blemishes and shine and controls redness. After 2 days of using this morning and night, my skin is visibly clearer which I'm so pleased about.

Mac Mineralise Charged Water (£19.00) - I use this constantly. I love hydrating sprays and this is one of my absolute favorites. The charged water also contains diamond powder which I find brightens my skintone. I use this before my serum/moisturiser and then again to set my makeup. I have a little version for my handbag that I use to hydrate throughout the day - work air con is a killer!

Nip & Fab Dragon's Blood Fix Hyaluronic Shot (£24.95) - This can be used alone or mixed with moisturiser. My skin is mega dehydrated so I use this on its own, in the mornings, after I spray my charged water. It sinks into my skin instantly, I notice that my skin looks much less dull after using this.

Verso Hydration Serum (£79.99) - I use this as my nighttime serum. Verso is a brand I'm fairly new to using and I love how hydrating it is and I really enjoy the light oat, scent (I'm not sure if that's pregnancy or not though haha)

GlamGlow Waterburst Hydrating Moisturiser (£39.00) - This is the first GlamGlow product I've used and I can't get enough of it. It works so well with my skin and leaves it hydrated all day. I can't decide if it smells like Terry's Chocolate Orange or Skittles (or both) but I can't stop sniffing it. You can instantly feel the hydration when it's applied to the skin. Absolutely perfect for me at the moment as I need all the hydration I can get.

La Prairie Eye and Lip Perfection A Porter (£125.00) - I've mentioned this a few times in the past. This duo from La Prairie is brilliant (although a bit pricey) I use it every day and it lasts me for ages. The lip balm hydrates without being sticky and the eye cream helps reduce dark circles and fine lines. The compact is perfect for popping in my handbag too.

Thankfully my skin is looking a lot better now after sticking to a proper routine. I'm currently awaiting the promised "glow" that everyone says is imminent but I won't hold my breath.
