Jamie's Italian Glasgow

Thursday, August 25, 2016

Although this is predominately a Beauty Blog, a girl's gotta eat and I do love to promote all things Glasgow! A few weeks ago I was invited along to Jamie’s Italian restaurant in Glasgow to try out their new Evening Specials Menu. I’ve never actually been to Jamie’s Italian for a meal but have visited for a cocktail making class so knew a little about the restaurant before I went.
Jamie’s Italian is a franchise of Italian restaurants created by top chef Jamie Oliver and serves simple, Italian classics.
They have recently launched two new menus: The Super Lunch menu (2 courses for £10.95) or Jamie’s Evening Favourites (three courses for £18.95). I went along after work one evening with my partner to try the Evening Favourites menu which had a selection of around 4-6 dishes to choose from for each course. I’m often a little wary of set menu’s as I’m vegetarian but also have a nut allergy and sometimes this can cause problems but I found the staff at Jamie’s really helpful and they were able to make changes to the dishes for me.

To start we both went for the planks, my partner had the Cured Meat Plank and I had the Veggie option. This contained a mixture of meats, cheeses, vegetables, pickles and olives. I really enjoyed this as I’m a fan of antipasti style meals and like to pick at things. My partner thought it could do with having a little more meat but enjoyed it none the less.

I am a massive fan of tomatoes, they make up at least 80% of my diet so the Heritage Tomato Salad definitely stood out for me. This was a delicious mix of various fresh and slow roasted tomatoes, basil, croutons and crispy capers and I added feta to make it a little more filling. I’d definitely have this again. My partner opted for the 35-day Dry-Aged Sirloin Steak with Jamie’s special “Funky Chips”. He absolutely loved the chips but thought the steak, although perfectly cooked, had a little too much garlic, if you like a lot of garlic you’d probably love it.

We were both pretty stuffed after the main courses but managed to fit in desert, I the Strawberries and Frozen Yoghurt from the lunch menu (the evening menu deserts looked lovely but weren’t suitable for my dietary requirements) The fruit was soaked in elderflower and lemon which was delicious but I wasn’t really a fan of the basil frozen yoghurt. I think it might be an acquired taste as I’ve heard others rave about it. My partner had the blackcurrant and limoncello panna cotta and said it was very nice.

I’m really looking forward to heading back to Jamie’s Italian as I’d like to try out some of their pasta dishes and hopefully have room for some tiramisu next time.
Jamie’s Italian is located in Glasgow’s George Square, visit Jamie’s Italian website for more information or bookings.
