Fenty Beauty - My Thoughts

Thursday, January 04, 2018

One of the most sought after and highly anticipated makeup collections of 2017 was the Fenty Beauty collection by Rihanna. The pop sensation launched the range which includes a whopping x products in Autumn and has been absolutely killing it ever since.
The packaging really appeals to me too, the outer cardboard boxes have a cool, monochrome, almost graffiti style and the product housing is pure white. It's made from shiny plastic so doesn't cling onto dirt or other makeup residue which is great (I hate when packaging gets dirty).

I’ve been using a few foundation and highlighting products from the collection and have been really impressed so far. I’ve tried products from other celebrity collections in the past and haven’t always been a fan of them as  I've found some lack in quality. I think they often spend more money on the marketing and packaging rather than the products themselves, however, I can gladly report that Fenty Beauty seems to have the same quality as any of my other high end cosmetics.

I’m really impressed with the Pro Filt'r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation (£26.00) as it caters for a wide range of skintones, seriously, challenge you to find a skintone (other than smurf) that this range doesn’t cover. I have shade 160 which is a tiny bit warmer than I'd usually go, I think 150 would be an exact match for my tone though. My only grumble isn’t actually for myself as I really like this foundation, but the foundation formula won’t suit everyone’s skin type. It has great coverage and staying power and it dries super quickly so you don’t have much time to blend but the finish – on my skin is perfect. This could be problematic if you have dry skin as I think potentially could sit on dry patches. I’d recommend using a really good serum and moisturiser letting sink in before applying with a brush or wet beauty blender which might give you a little bit of extra time to work it in. If you’ve tried it I’d love to hear your thoughts.

The absolute star of the collection for me is the Killawatt Freestyle Highlighters (£26.00) I have three of the compacts
and can’t get enough of them. Two of the compacts I have are split pan so have two different complementary shades in each which is really handy and saves space in my makeup bag.The individual shade, Metal Moon, is a beautiful iridescent white with blue shift, it gives a lovely ethereal glow.  I like to use the Lightening Dust/Fire Crystal duo as a highlighter and the Ginger Binge/Moscow Mule duo as a blusher or eyeshadow as I love wearing this kind of warm shade, especially under my lower lashline. It looks great with loads of black kohl eyeliner and mascara.

Have you tried anything from the Fenty Beauty collection? It's available from Harvey Nichols.
