Glasgow Loves Christmas

Wednesday, December 02, 2015

I'm so excited that it's December. Christmas is one of my favorite times of the year, not just because of the lovely presents but mostly because we get to spend time with friends and family.

Unfortunately my ability to take part in fun Christmas events and parties is limited as I've just had knee surgery to reshape my tibia (bone behind the kneecap at the top of the shin). I've been enjoying watching lots of Christmas movies to cheer myself up, The Holiday and Elf are among my favourites.

Glasgow is a fantastic place to be at Christmas, I love the atmosphere, the lights, everything. There is always a wonderful, festive buzz around the city. Visiting the Christmas Market in St. Enoch Square is one of my favorite things to do at this time of the year. I love browsing the stalls for festive trinkets while sipping on a mulled wine and sampling some of the delicious continental food. (Churros mmm...) I also have to miss my office Christmas meal this year but I'm planning on a trip to Glasgow's Chaophraya for a lovely treat when I'm back on my feet again.

Since I'm stuck at home I'll be doing most of my shopping online this year but if you are still to do yours then The Style Mile has some of Glasgow's best shopping. You'll be spoiled for choice at the Buchanan Galleries, St. Enoch Centre and Princes Square centres, or if getting everything in the one place is more your thing why not try a department store? House of Fraser, John Lewis or Debenhams are all jam packed with Christmas gifts. If you are looking to get an extra special piece of jewelry for that special someone then Argyll Arcade is where you need to be.

Another winter favorite of mine is to visit George Square. The square is probably the most festive area in the city and is packed with fairground rides,  and a massive outdoor ice rink. Glasgow on Ice is open now until 31st December. Sadly this year I'm not able to go skating but I have two tickets to giveaway to one lucky reader.
