Munro's Craft Beer Pub - Great Western Road

Friday, April 12, 2013

I'm partial to a drink or two, so when Munro's recently had a launch night I was really looking forward to go along and see the new pub.

Situated on Great Western road where the, ever so dingy but cosy, Captains Rest once stood, Munro's is a wonderfully welcoming craft beer and ale pub.
If I'm going out for a drink with friends, I like to shy away from anywhere with garish disco lights and chart music but prefer a more relaxing and home-like atmosphere.

I can safely say that Munro's offers just that. I felt right at home as soon as I walked through the doors on that chilly evening and was suitably warmed once inside.
The bar was once a used car showroom called Munro's Motors so when MacLay Inns took over they decided to rename to pay homage to the buildings former use.

Not your run of the mill Glasgow pub, Munro's offers six guest craft and cask on tap as well as their wide range of permanent beers and ciders. If you aren't sure what to have, you could go for a cask or craft taster which allows you to sample three different beers (a third of a pint each) for £3.50 for cask and £4.25 for craft.
I especially favoured the guest cask cider which was Gwynt Y Ddraig, Welsh Warrior if I remember correctly. One sip took me straight back to a muddy, Glastonbury field. I can see myself sitting outside in the Summer drinking this.

I also was able to sample the food and I can safely say I was impressed, I like to have a nibble on little bits and pieces rather than have a full meal if I'm out and about so the vegetarian platter (£10) was exactly what I needed. I adore anything to do with olives and sun-dried tomatoes and could easily have eaten another 4 of these... well maybe not.
I also tried the gourmet beef burger (£8) which was also lovely, (coming from someone who isn't a burger fan) I'd definitely try it again.

Munro's can be found at 185 Great Western Road in Glasgow's West End and is open Monday-Sunday 10am-midnight.
