How To - Apply Nail Girls London Nail Wraps

Thursday, April 04, 2013

I'm hopeless when it comes to nail art but I do like to rock a funky design at the end of my fingertips so nail wraps are perfect for me.

I've been trying out some Nail Girls wraps* and I think they are fab! If like me you aren't the best at working with nail polishes but still want a cool, fashionable look for your talons then these are definitely for you.

Nail Girls wraps come in a huge variety of colours and patterns. I have a bit of an obsession with anything zebra print so as soon as I saw these Diamond Zebra No.8 wraps I knew I had to have them.
Nail wraps are basically a type of adhesive sticker which can be applied to bare nails or over gel or acrylics to create a super quick polished look.

They can be a little tricky to apply but once you get the hang of it you'll be changing them all the time like a pro. I've created a little guide with some tips for application;

To apply Nail Girls nail wraps you will need;
  • NailGirls Nail Wraps
  • Scissors
  • Nail File/Buffer
  • Cuticle Stick (not pictured)

If you are applying the wraps to bare nails, start off by giving a quick wipe over with a nail cleanser/remover to get rid of any oils on the nail.
Push back your cuticles with the cuticle stick and file your nails to your desired shape, buff the nails gently to roughen up the surface as this will help the wrap stick.

Next, match up your nails to the wraps to find the correct size for each nail. Nail Girls wraps come with 15 different sizes so you should be able to find one that fits each nail. These can also be used on toes.

Cut your wrap in half horizontally as each wrap can be used for two nails. Before peeling off the wrap, warm them gently by rubbing between your hands. These wraps don't require heat to bond but it does stick a little easier if you warm them slightly. Don't use a hairdryer as it would totally melt the glue.

Line up the wrap, rounded edge towards your cuticle and press down firmly making sure to secure the edges, its a good idea to go round the edges pressing down using your cuticle stick to make sure they are secure.

Trim away any excess from the end of the nail making sure not to cut your actual nail.

Then if you use a nail file in a downwards motion any extra wrap can easily be filed to size....

And Tadaa! Fantastic nails!
As I've been in work all week I wanted something fun but subtle so I went for the statement nail trend and only applied the wraps to my little fingers and teamed it up with a bright red polish (Illamasqua - Throb) but you can go crazy and apply them to all your nails (and toes) or my personal favourite is wearing a funky wrap on just the ring fingers as I can feel this being bang on trend for the summer.

The nail wraps normally last about 5-7 days for me and are completely chip-free. You can use a top coat if you like but normally I don't bother.
To remove simply peel off and wipe the nail with some remover to remove any adhesive residue.
Nail Girls Nail wraps are available from Nail Girls Spa's in Islington and Glasgow Silverburn as well as the Nail Girls website.
