Eating out in Glasgow - Sapporo Teppanyaki

Monday, October 08, 2012

I love Japanese food so was really happy when the Mr decided he wanted to go to Sapporo Teppanyaki for his birthday dinner.

I've been once before and really enjoyed the experience so couldn't wait to go again.
Situated in Glasgow's Merchant city, its a colourful and warm restaurant which is very welcoming.

Teppanyaki is a style of Japanese cuisine which uses an iron griddle, or teppan to cook the food. You are seated around this and the chefs prepare your food right in front of you.

Sapporo Teppanyaki is just as much about the entertainment as well as the food, the highly skilled chefs juggle the knives, eggs and flames while cooking your food perfectly.

They have a huge range of dishes to choose from, We chose the Early Diner menu which is £14.95 for 3 courses. starters come from the kitchen, I had tuna sushi rolls which was the chef's special that day and they were so delicious that I ate them all up before I could take a picture.
Other starters include duck rolls, bbq spare ribs, aubergine and smoked chicken salad, vegetable tempura and nigiri sushi.

Mains are cooked on the teppan right at the table the chef starts off with Sapporo sauteed potato's which he then throws into the mouths of diners. I was terrible though and didn't manage to catch mine. All mains are served with the potatos, vegetable stir fry and egg fried rice. The chef also does some funny tricks with the eggs but I won't give away the full experience.
I had the chef's special of fillet of Sea Bass which was delicious, it was cooked to perfection, soft and fluffy on the outside with crispy skin. Other mains include Salmon with ginger and garlic, fillet steak with teriyaki or bbq sauce, chicken teriyaki and vegetable yakisoba.

They also have a huge selection of Sushi which can be enjoyed at the Bar Area as well as in the restaurant.

By the end of the main I was totally stuffed but managed to find room for a Sticky Coconut Rice desert which was served with fresh pinapple.

Sapporo Teppanyaki also has a gorgeous bar area which serves some lovely Japanese beers and Sake cocktails. I had a Senji Caipirinha, fresh strawberries mashed with lime and sugar flavoured with Sake and Strawberry liqueur, and a Sparkling Ginza which was gin shaken with apple Schnapps, elderflower syrup, soda and lemon juice. Both were delicious and very refreshing.

I'd definately reccomend Sapporo Teppanyaki for eating out in Glasgow, its perfect for any occasion but it is especially great in larger groups for birthdays etc.
